For sale, a X-RARE TO FIND (ORIGINAL NEVADA TOKEN BOOK SHOWS '6 SPECIMENS REPORTED' AND BEAUTIFUL CONDITIONolder 'good for'trade token once worth '(GOOD FOR) 25C 1953 (IN TRADE)' used at 'NEVADA STATE PRISON' located near the town of CARSON CITY NEVADA (these were used in famed 'BULLPEN CASINO' which operated in prison)

THESE OLD 'NEVADA STATE PRISON' TOKENS ARE VERY COLLECTIBLE TODAY. This token is dated, and very likely used in the historic 'Bullpen Casino' which was operated in thismaximum security prison. (unique in US history)…THIS IS PART OF SAME COLLECTION AS ONES RECENTLY SOLD ON HISTORY CHANNEL'S 'PAWN STAR' SHOW…..THESE ARE VERY TOUGH TO FIND, AS MOST WERE DESTROYED ONCE THE PRISON CASINO SHUT DOWN.

The town of Carson City is located in Carson City county, not far from Reno, Virginia City, Gardnerville and Minden Nevada. Town is known for the old 'CC MINT' and being state capital of Nevada. These old tokens likely would have been issued for use by prisoners in the commissary (to buy smokes or soda)...but along came Warden Fogliani....and his idea to operate a casino inside the prison.

These old tokens were called 'BRASS' by the inmates...and it is documented that they were used to gamble within the prison at the 'BULLPEN CASINO' which was closed down in 1967. Over the years I have read amazing articles published in Nevada papers, with pictures showing inmatesgambling, and using these tokens....this casino was deemed 'THE WORLDS MOST HONEST CASINO'...operated under Warden Fogliani in old days...these tokens are RARE to find today. (one picture showed armed guards overseeing a gaming table...yikes...)

One article I read documenting the history of the 'Bullpen Casino' and why it was bulldozed in 1967...as new incoming warden from San Quentin Prison, Captain Jack Hocker took over...he commented (loose translation) 'the dismal fact is that you had women (on the outside) on relief (they were broke) sending money to their husbands or boyfriends to pay gambling debts'....absolutely amazing. (also read this was ONLY documented and sanctioned casino operating within the walls of a maximum security prison)

These old prison tokens from NEVADA STATE PRISON are just tough to find today...few survived. Many people love to collect all of the different varieties, some are dated, some are not. THIS IS A RARE ONE TO FIND, THE 25C 1953 VARIETY... A QUARTER WAS A TON OF MONEY IN PRISON, YOU COULD BUY A BUICK IN THOSE DAYS FOR A DOLLAR (its a joke)

If you look in the original Nevada token book (Hoskins, Schilling and Dunn), this prison variety token is listed as NE-1bb, and book shows '6 specimens reported' which would translate to R-10...AS RARE AS IT GETS FOR THESE OLD NEVADA PRISON TOKENS..(think about it…a coin is considered 'RARE' if 10,000 were minted…and sells for huge money..these old tokens put coins to shame regarding rarity and are relative bargains in collecting)

Trade token is brass metal, round, about 23mm in diameter (nickel sized),and it displays nicely.(please see pictures in gallery) Token looks great in person, natural patina intact, has not been cleaned...still has lustre!!

While manyold NEVADA PRISON TOKENS are worn (likely from handling and use in Bullpen Casino)...this one is in nice condition.
